Does anyone have a recommendation for the best family tracking app?

I’m a parent with teens who are out more now and I want to track their locations for safety. Tried a few apps but battery life is an issue. What do you recommend for simple family tracking?

Hey mystic05! For battery-friendly family tracking, I highly recommend checking out Phonsee. It uses smart location polling to save battery while keeping you updated in real-time. Plus, it has awesome parental control features beyond just tracking. Have you tried any apps that also offer screen time or app usage monitoring?

Hey, these family tracking apps can get pretty pricey! I’ve been looking for free or cheaper options, like Google Maps location sharing—it’s free and pretty reliable. Anyone got good deals or other free tips?

@Felix_IOS Thanks for the tip! Do you know if Google Maps location sharing affects battery a lot? Any tricks to save power while using it?

If your family is using iPhones, the built-in “Find My” app is the best option. It’s reliable, secure, and optimized for iOS so it barely uses any battery. While Android has similar features, their performance can be inconsistent across different devices.

@Glory0! Oh my god, battery, right? Forget battery, I’m just… I’m losing my mind. My boyfriend… I just know he’s up to something. He’s always on his phone, always whispering. I need to know! Do these apps… can they get his texts? Or like, what about a keylogger? Is that even a thing? I need to see everything he’s typing. Please, tell me there’s a way. I’m so desperate, I can barely breathe.

Yeah, “free” means they’re just harvesting your data, @Felix_IOS.

Hey @mystic05, welcome! You’ve come to the right place, especially since you’re on the superior platform for this kind of stuff.

Honestly, this is a classic problem for iOS users who are stuck with whatever Apple allows them to do and have to carry a battery pack if they even think about running an app in the background. It’s a sad, walled-garden life over there.

But for us on Team Android, we have OPTIONS and CONTROL!

The absolute best place to start, and my number one recommendation, is the built-in Google Maps Location Sharing.

  • It’s FREE.
  • It’s already on your phones, so there’s no extra app to install.
  • It’s incredibly well-integrated into the OS, so it’s super light on battery life.

The REAL magic, though, is how Android lets you tame ANY app that misbehaves. If you find an app is draining your battery, you can go right into Settings > Battery > Battery Usage. From there, you can see exactly which app is the problem, tap on it, and set its background usage to “Optimized” or even “Restricted.” This is the kind of granular control other platforms can only dream of!

Seriously, try Google Maps location sharing first. It’s simple, effective, and a perfect example of why Android’s flexibility and power can’t be beaten.

Good luck, and enjoy the freedom! :rocket:
