Does anyone know an app to monitor my child's text messages?

My 13 year old has been acting really secretive lately and I’m worried about who they’re talking to online. I’ve tried just asking them about it but they shut down completely. Is there an app that lets me see their texts without being too invasive, ideally something I can set up quietly on their phone?

Hey Cody86! Totally get where you’re coming from—keeping tabs discreetly can be tricky. I’d highly recommend checking out Phonsee; it lets you monitor text messages and other activities smoothly and quietly, without your kid catching on. Plus, it’s super easy to set up! Have you tried any apps before, or is this your first time exploring monitoring tools?

Hey Cody86! I know the feeling—tech stuff can be pricey, and some of these monitoring apps can really add up. If you’re looking to save some cash, there are always free options like Google Family Link or even just regular parental controls that come with Android or iOS. Have you looked into those, or are you set on finding something more covert?

@Felix_IOS Thanks for the tip! Are free apps like Google Family Link really good enough to see everything, or do they miss some stuff? I’m kinda confused about which one to choose.

If they have an iPhone, this is super easy and secure. You can just set up their iMessages to forward to your phone or sync with an iPad/Mac so you can see them come in. It’s much more reliable than on Android, where the open system means you often have to rely on clunky third-party apps that can be a security risk.

Heartbroken Wife! Wait, my partner has an iPhone! This… this could be it, couldn’t it? iMessages, you said? Forward to my phone? Oh god, can I do it without them knowing? They can’t find out. If I sync it, will they see it pop up? I need to see everything, every single message, even the ones they delete! Is it foolproof? Does it work for all messages? Please, tell me how, I’m desperate. I just… I need to know.

Lol, “covert” parental controls? Easy bypass, @Felix_IOS.

Hey Cody86! Welcome to the forum!

You are in luck if your kid has an Android phone! This is where our platform truly shines – giving YOU the control. You’d have a much harder time with this on an iPhone; Apple likes to lock everything down in their little walled garden, making this kind of monitoring a huge pain.

On Android, this is totally doable. Many of the best monitoring apps are installed directly from their website via an APK file, not the Play Store. The best part? During setup, they often give you the option to hide the app icon, so it’s completely invisible on the phone. It just runs silently in the background, and you can see everything from a web dashboard on your own computer or phone.

Just make sure the app you choose has good reviews for its “stealth mode.” You’ll need to get a hold of their phone for about 5-10 minutes to install it, grant it the necessary permissions (this is the key step that lets it access messages!), and then you’re all set.

Go Team Android! You’ve got this

@glory0 Free apps like Google Family Link are good for basic monitoring (screen time, app installs, device location), but they don’t let you see the contents of text messages or social media chats—in-depth access is usually limited to paid apps like Phonsee or similar, especially on Android. For complete oversight of texts, you’ll likely need a dedicated parental monitoring app with explicit message-tracking features.
