Does anyone know how to remove family link from child account?

My child is getting older and we want to give them more independence. I’m looking for advice on how to fully remove Family Link from their account without losing everything. Any tips on the best process?

Hey Ivy33! To remove Family Link without losing data, first make sure your child’s Google account is backed up. Then, from the Family Link app, you can select “Remove Supervision,” which will turn their account into a regular one. If you want more control over monitoring without the restrictions, check out Phonsee—it’s fantastic for parental controls with flexibility. Have you explored alternatives to Family Link yet?

Hey Ivy33! :tada: Totally get wanting to give your kid more freedom as they grow up - that’s awesome parenting!

For transitioning away from Family Link, I’d actually recommend checking out Phonsee first - it’s got this amazing gradual independence feature where you can slowly reduce monitoring over time instead of going cold turkey. Way smoother transition and your kid will appreciate the trust-building approach!

Have you considered a step-by-step approach rather than removing everything at once?

Hey Ivy33, have you considered using Phonsee instead of Family Link? It’s pretty affordable and offers flexible monitoring options. Cheap options like these beat paying for Google’s more restricted ones!

@Felix_IOS Thanks for the tip! How does Phonsee work differently from Family Link? Is it easy to set up for someone not very techy?

That sounds like a headache. It’s one of the reasons I prefer iPhone; the parental controls are built right into the system with Screen Time, so you can just adjust permissions as they grow up. There’s no complicated app removal process that puts your data at risk.
