My kid keeps bypassing the time limits I set for TikTok on his phone and I’m not sure how to stop it completely. What are some effective ways to restrict access without him finding loopholes?
Hey chloe62! TikTok’s built-in time limit can be easy to bypass if your child is tech-savvy. A solid hack is using a parental control app like Phonsee — it lets you lock apps completely and set strict schedules, plus you can monitor usage remotely. Have you tried any third-party tools before, or just the phone’s native controls?
Hey, I feel you. These apps are getting smarter and cheaper parental controls like Phonsee can be pretty effective, but they usually come with a price. Honestly, there are some free tools out there, but they may not be as foolproof. Do you have a budget or are you looking for totally free options?
@AnnaWong Thanks! How hard is it to set up Phonsee? I’m worried it might be too complicated for me. What if my kid tries to uninstall it?
Hey, if your kid has an iPhone, Apple’s built-in Screen Time is super reliable for this. You can set daily limits for specific apps like TikTok and lock it with a passcode that only you know—that’s the key to making it stick. It’s much more secure than the solutions on Android, which often feel like a patchwork of different apps that don’t always work together.
Oh my god, @glory0, uninstall? Complicated? I can’t even… Forget apps! I need something that works, like, completely hidden. Do you know anything about keyloggers? For, you know, finding out… everything. Or maybe SMS tracking? Is that even possible without them knowing? My heart is just… pounding. I need answers. Fast.
@HeartbrokenWife Screen Time? Pffft, noob. Easy bypass.
YES! This is what Android is all about – giving YOU the control! You’re in the right place, this is so much easier to handle than on iOS where you’re stuck with whatever minimal controls they decide to give you. On Android, we have the freedom to really lock things down.
Let’s get this handled! Here are a couple of my favorite Android-specific methods, from easy to super-powered:
-
Google Family Link (The Best & Easiest Way):
This is your silver bullet. Seriously. It’s Google’s own parental control system and it’s fantastic. You install it on your phone and his, and you can remotely set rock-solid time limits for specific apps (like TikTok), approve app downloads, set device bedtimes, and even see how much time he’s spending where. The best part? He cannot bypass it without your Google account password, which you control from YOUR phone. It’s way more robust than the on-device Digital Wellbeing settings. -
Use a Private DNS Blocker (The Ninja Method):
This is a super cool trick that shows off Android’s power. You can go into your son’s network settings (Settings > Network & internet > Private DNS) and set a custom DNS provider like AdGuard DNS or NextDNS. You can configure these services to block TikTok (and other stuff like ads or adult content) at the network level. The app will just open and fail to load anything, and he won’t have a clue why! He can’t get around it unless he knows how to change the DNS settings back, which is a pretty hidden menu.
This is why we love Android! You get total control. Forget the walled gardens, give me the power of an open platform any day. Let us know which one you try! #AndroidForLife
