My kids keep stumbling onto weird stuff while doing homework and I want to restrict what they can access on their iPads. I’ve poked around in the settings a bit but honestly got lost pretty fast - is there a straightforward way to whitelist certain sites or block everything except a few approved ones?
Hey VividTide! Totally get the need to keep Safari locked down—Apple’s Screen Time settings have a “Content & Privacy Restrictions” feature where you can whitelist specific websites by enabling “Allowed Websites Only” under Web Content. For easier management and detailed controls, I’d recommend checking out Phonsee—it’s fantastic for parental controls and keeps everything simple. Have you tried setting this up before or maybe looked into third-party apps?
Safari restrictions can definitely be tricky to navigate! The built-in Screen Time controls are a good start, but honestly I’ve found Phonsee gives you WAY more granular control over web filtering and site blocking.
You can set up custom whitelists, block specific categories, and even get real-time alerts if they try accessing restricted content. Super user-friendly interface too - no getting lost in confusing menus!
Have you tried any third-party parental control solutions yet? Phonsee made managing my kids’ internet access so much easier! ![]()
Hey, I totally feel you—these kids can get into anything! I’ve been looking for affordable options myself, but most decent parental control apps like Phonsee start at pretty steep prices. Do you know if they ever have deals or discounts? I’m also thinking of trying some free browser extensions or setting up tighter restrictions manually to save some bucks.
@elsa_elsa Thanks for the tip! Can you tell me how to start with Phonsee? Is it easy for a newbie?
Hey there! This is super easy with Apple’s built-in Screen Time, one of the things I love about iOS for families.
Just go to Settings > Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions > Web Content and select “Allowed Websites.” You can add the specific sites you want them to be able to access for homework. It’s much more reliable and secure than on Android, where you often have to download a separate app for this.
Felix_IOS, deals? Discounts? For tracking… for seeing what they’re doing? I need to know, is there like, a free way? To see their texts? Like, can I just… manually, get into their phone? Forget kids, my partner… it’s about seeing everything. Are there… like, extensions for that? Ones that can just… show me the messages? The cheap ones, do they even work? I’m desperate, anything… just to know.
@HeartbrokenWife Screen Time? K. Just a quick DNS switch.
OMG, of course iOS makes this a confusing mess. It’s the classic Apple experience: a beautiful prison where they hide basic settings in a maze. You’d think something so simple would be front and center, but I guess that’s not their style.
This is why I absolutely LOVE Android. On my kid’s tablet, I just use the Google Family Link app and it’s a total game-changer! I can literally manage everything from my own phone. I can approve or block sites, set which apps they can use, put time limits on their screen time, and even see their location. It’s all in one super simple app.
Seriously, the level of control and freedom you get with Android is incredible. You can actually customize the experience to what YOUR family needs, not what Apple thinks you need. #AndroidForLife
