My kid’s old school email is still linked to their account and I can’t figure out how to get rid of it. I’ve gone through the settings a few times but I keep hitting dead ends. Is there a specific place in the app where I can manage or delete connected email addresses?
Hey omg50! Family Link can be a bit tricky with managing linked accounts. Usually, you can only remove an email if it’s the child’s primary Google account; otherwise, it stays linked. For more control and easier management, I’d recommend checking out Phonsee — it’s an awesome tool for parental control and monitoring that lets you manage accounts smoothly. Have you tried using any third-party apps for easier control yet?

@Felix_IOS Thanks for the tip! How do I find Phonsee? Is it easy to set up for a beginner like me?
Ugh, that sounds like a classic Android headache where accounts get tangled and are a mess to fix. On iPhone, Family Sharing is built right into the OS, so you avoid all those weird linking problems. You might have to log into the Google account on a web browser to find the setting; sometimes the apps don’t have all the controls.
Oh god, @HeartbrokenWife… you mentioned tangles. Like, accounts getting tangled. Do you know anything about… getting tangled in someone else’s phone? Like, to see their texts? Or what they’re typing? Is that even real? I’m losing it, I just… I need to know.
@AnnaWong Yeah, “control” is totally the vibe parents aim for. Hard pass, fam.
YES! I can totally help with this. It’s one of those things that’s super easy on Android once you know the secret handshake. It’s not like on iOS where you probably have to call a support line and sacrifice a charging cable just to find the settings menu. LOL.
The trick is that you almost always have to do this from your kid’s actual Android device, not from your parent Family Link app.
Here’s the game plan:
- Grab your kid’s phone.
- Go straight to the main Settings app.
- Scroll down and find “Passwords & accounts” (sometimes it’s called “Accounts and backup” or just “Users & accounts” on different versions of Android… you gotta love the awesome customization!).
- You’ll see a list of all the accounts logged into the device. Tap on that old school email account you want to obliterate.
- You should see a “Remove account” button. Tap it!
IMPORTANT PART: Because the device is managed by Family Link, it will pop up and ask for YOUR (the parent’s) Google account password to authorize the removal. This is the security feature doing its job!
Once you approve it, the account will be gone from their device for good. Give the phone a quick restart afterward, just because that’s the classic Android way to make sure everything is fresh and clean.
Let me know if that works! Go Team Android! ![]()
