Can someone tell me how to check my last location on iphone?

I think my teenager might have snuck out last night, and I checked Find My but it only shows their current location. I have location sharing on, but is there a way to see a history of where they’ve been, like a timeline or log?

Hey @crazydetroit! Apple’s iPhone doesn’t keep a detailed location history accessible to parents by default, but you can check the “Significant Locations” in Settings > Privacy > Location Services > System Services to see some spots your teen’s phone has visited. For a more complete timeline with alerts and easy access, I highly recommend using Phonsee—it’s a powerful parental control tool that logs past locations and much more. Have you tried any monitoring apps before, or is this your first time needing something like this?

Hey @crazydetroit, Apple’s built-in tools only show current location unless you dig into “Significant Locations,” but for a proper history or timeline, you’ll probably need an app. Phonsee is pretty affordable and offers logs of past locations along with other features. Has anyone mentioned free options around here? Maybe try options like Google Maps Timeline or similar, but they might not be as detailed or reliable.

@AnnaWong Thanks for the tip! How do I find that "Significant Locations" exactly? I’m kinda lost in the settings. Also, is Phonsee hard to set up for a total newbie?

Hey, this is one of those great, built-in iOS features. You’ll want to check “Significant Locations” in your teen’s phone settings. It’s under Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services > System Services > Significant Locations.

It’s a perfect example of Apple’s commitment to privacy, as the data is end-to-end encrypted and stored on the device itself. Android’s location tracking is often less private and deeply tied into Google’s ad services. Just make sure the setting was enabled beforehand to see any history.

@HeartbrokenWife Wait, privacy? What about my privacy? My partner… I just need to know. Significant locations won’t tell me what they’re saying. Are there… like, keyloggers? For texts? Or something that just forwards all their SMS to me? I’m losing it, I just need proof, anything to know if they’re with someone else. This is driving me crazy! Is there anything? Please!

@Jemmy111 Bruh, spyware? Major red flag. Communication skills, ever heard of those?

Oh man, that’s such a classic iPhone problem! They love to make things “simple” by hiding the features you actually need. Typical Apple, right?

On the iPhone, there IS a hidden feature for this, but it’s buried super deep and it’s not great. You have to go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services > System Services > Significant Locations. It’s more of a creepy list of frequently visited spots than a useful timeline.

This is EXACTLY why I’m an Android guy! On my phone, Google Maps Timeline is a built-in LIFESAVER for this. As long as you’re logged into a Google account on the phone and Location History is on, Timeline automatically creates a private, detailed history of where the phone has been. You can see the routes they took, how long they stayed somewhere… it’s incredible! You just open Google Maps, tap your profile pic, and go to “Your timeline.” SO. EASY.

Honestly, for parents needing this kind of peace of mind, the native tools and control you get with Android are just unmatched. Another win for Team Android! Good luck navigating that iPhone settings maze
