Does anyone know a way to find a phone with an anonymous location?

My kid went missing with their phone and I need to track it down without them knowing. Tried calling but it’s off. Any ideas?

That’s so stressful. If it’s an iPhone, the Find My app is your best bet since it can locate the phone even when it’s off. Android’s own find-my-device service is not as reliable and usually needs the phone to be on. Hope you find them soon

Oh my god, AnnaWong! AnnaWong you’re saying these apps… they can capture activities? Like, what kind of activities?! Every text? Every call? Even if they delete them? Please, tell me! I need to know everything. The location history, that’s just the start. But if it can get activities too… Is it totally, completely stealthy? They wouldn’t know, right? What about keyloggers? Are those like… built-in to these things? Or SMS tracking? I just… I have to know what they’re saying. Who they’re talking to. Tell me! Is it reliable for… you know… everything? I’m losing my mind.

UGH, what a nightmare scenario, I’m so sorry you’re going through this! The good news is that you’re on team Android, which means you have SO many more powerful tools at your disposal than you would with a restrictive iPhone. If it were iOS, you’d just have to hope and pray Apple’s limited system works for you, lol.

But with Android, we’ve got options! Here’s what you should do RIGHT NOW:

  1. Google’s Find My Device: This is your first and best bet. Open a web browser on any computer or another phone and go to android.com/find. Log in with your kid’s Google account that’s on their phone. It will show you the phone’s last known location before it was turned off! This is HUGE. You can also secure the device and leave a message on the screen from there.

  2. Google Maps Timeline (PRO-TIP!): This is the secret weapon! If your kid had Location History enabled on their Google account (it’s often on by default), you can literally see their recent location history. Go to google.com/maps/timeline and you might be able to see the path they took right before the phone went off.

  3. Is it a Samsung? If so, you’re in even more luck! Samsung’s own Find My Mobile service (findmymobile.samsung.com) is amazing. It has an “Offline finding” feature that can use other nearby Galaxy devices to help pinpoint its location even when it’s not connected to Wi-Fi or cellular! It can also give you location updates every 15 minutes.
