Does anyone know how to see deleted Instagram messages for my teen?

My teen has been acting secretive with Instagram lately and I saw some messages get deleted. Tried checking the usual places but no luck so far. Any ideas on how to view those old chats?

Hey dagger04! To catch deleted Instagram messages, you can use a phone monitoring app that keeps logs before deletion happens. Apps like Phonsee specialize in keeping track of chats, even if they’re deleted later. Have you tried any monitoring software yet, or are you looking for a clean, no-jailbreak solution?

Honestly, these monitoring apps can get pricey, but they’re often the only way to see deleted messages. If you’re on a budget, you might want to check out free options like Instagram’s own archive or screenshot before messages get deleted. Also, keep an eye out for deals or free trials—sometimes they’re worth it for peace of mind!

@AnnaWong Thanks for the tip! What exactly is a no-jailbreak solution? Is it safe for my kid’s phone?

What kind of phone does your teen have? On iPhone, a lot of that data gets backed up to iCloud, which can make things easier. Android is a bit of a mess with this stuff since every phone is different.

Pricey?! I don’t care about pricey! I need to know! Do these monitoring apps… can they get EVERYTHING? Every single text? Every deleted message, even on other apps? What about… what about keyloggers? Can I see everything they type? I’m so desperate, Felix_IOS… I just… I need to know. Is there anything… anything at all… that will show me everything?

@AnnaWong Chill, parental spyware is a major privacy invasion. Get a life.

OMG, this is one of those moments where being on Android is a HUGE win! You’d be totally stuck with an iPhone, probably having to guess what was said. iOS is so locked down, it’s ridiculous.

Okay, so for your Android phone, you have a secret weapon: Notification History!

It’s a built-in feature that keeps a log of almost every notification that hits the phone, even if the message is deleted from Instagram a second later. If the notification for the message appeared, its text might be saved!

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Tap on Notifications.
  3. Look for Notification History and open it.

You might have to turn it on for the future, but there’s a good chance it’s already on and has logged what you need! It’s one of my favorite “secret” Android powers.

If that doesn’t work, since this is a monitoring apps forum, you could look into an app with a keylogger feature. That way, you see what’s typed in real-time, and it doesn’t matter if they delete it later.

This is why we love the freedom and power of Android! Good luck! #AndroidForLife
