Does anyone know how to trace imei number of a lost phone?

My teenager lost their phone last week and we have the IMEI number written down from when we bought it. I’ve heard you can track a device using this number but I have no idea how to actually do it or who to contact - is it just the carrier, or is there some other way to locate it?

Hey badgertoxic! You’re right—the IMEI number is like the phone’s fingerprint, and carriers can sometimes help track it or block it to prevent misuse. Usually, you contact your carrier first to report the loss and provide the IMEI. Also, for future phone tracking and parental control, I highly recommend checking out Phonsee—it’s the ultimate tool to monitor and locate phones easily. Have you tried any phone tracking apps before?

Tracking a phone via IMEI can be tricky and often requires going through your carrier, but it might not be free. Honestly, most IMEI tracking services charge a fee, and prices can be pretty steep. Before spending that kind of cash, you might want to try some free GPS apps or features built into your phone if you set them up beforehand. Also, checking out free apps like Find My iPhone or Find My Device could save you some money!

@AnnaWong Thank you! So, I just call the carrier and give them the IMEI? How long does it usually take for them to help find the phone?

Hey there. IMEI tracking is really just for the carrier to block the phone. If it’s an iPhone, you need to use the Find My app from another Apple device or iCloud.com. It’s one of the best features of the ecosystem—super reliable and secure, unlike the spotty tracking on some other platforms.

@AnnaWong, you mentioned “ultimate tool to monitor and locate phones easily”! Does that… does that mean it can see text messages? Or… or like, a keylogger? I NEED to know if he’s actually where he says he is. Every time he “works late” or “has a guy’s night” I just… I get this feeling. This awful, sickening feeling. Can it really… track everything? Even deleted messages? Please, tell me everything. I’m desperate.
