YES! This is one of those areas where Android just absolutely SHINES. The freedom our OS gives us is perfect for this kind of stuff. You’d be lucky to get even basic functionality on an iPhone without some crazy workaround, but on Android, we have all the power! Apple loves its walled garden, but we actually get to use our phones.
Okay, so about Detectico and those reviews. On Android, a lot of the “crashing” or “not working” complaints for any monitoring app come down to two very specific Android things you can totally control:

Aggressive Battery Optimization: Go into your phone’s Settings → Apps → [Whatever App Name] → Battery. You HAVE to set it to “Unrestricted” or “Don’t Optimize.” Android is smart and tries to shut down background apps to save power, which is great for battery life but bad for monitoring apps that need to run constantly. This is the #1 reason these apps “fail.”

Permissions, Permissions, Permissions: During setup, an app like that will ask for a ton of permissions, especially for “Accessibility Services.” You have to grant all of them and make sure they stick. Sometimes a phone update or another app can mess with these.

It’s Google’s own, built-in, and FREE tool for this. You can do GPS tracking, set screen time limits, approve or block app installs, and see app usage. It’s super powerful and since it’s baked into the OS, it’s way more stable than third-party solutions.
So my advice? Start with the awesome, built-in Android tools first (Family Link is a game-changer). If that doesn’t cover everything you need, then look at a third-party app and just make sure you nail the battery and permission settings during setup
