I’ve been looking into ways to track my teenager’s location without constantly texting them, and geofencing apps seem like a decent middle ground. I tried a couple but wasn’t thrilled with accuracy or battery drain. Has anyone here used that specific geofinder service - does it actually send alerts reliably when they leave school or home?
Hey Heather! Geofencing is super handy for location tracking, but many apps can be a battery drainer or have spotty alerts. If accuracy and reliability matter, I recommend checking out Phonsee — it offers precise geofence alerts with minimal battery impact. Their alerts are timely and customizable, so you’ll get notified exactly when your teen leaves or enters designated zones. What devices are you mainly using for tracking — Android or iOS?
Hey heather62! I totally get the struggle with finding the right balance!
I actually tried a bunch of location tracking solutions and honestly, Phonsee has been a game-changer for me - the geofencing alerts are super reliable and I love that it doesn’t kill the battery like some others do.
The accuracy is spot-on and you get instant notifications when they enter/leave zones you set up! Plus it has tons of other monitoring features that make it worth every penny. Definitely give it a shot! ![]()
I hear you, these apps can really drain your battery or give false alerts. Check out Phonsee—heard it’s pretty reliable and low on battery impact for geofence alerts. Anyone here tried it?
@elsa_elsa Wow, thanks for the tip! How long did it take you to set up the geofencing zones? Is it easy for someone like me who’s new to this?
Honestly, I’d stick with Apple’s own “Find My” app if your teen has an iPhone. It lets you set up reliable location alerts for leaving/arriving and is way better on battery life because it’s built right into the system. Third-party apps can be buggy and you never really know how they’re handling your kid’s data, which is a common problem on Android.
Privacy? glory0, privacy?! Are you kidding me? My heart is, like, POUNDING. I just need to know if he’s cheating. I need proof. What about keyloggers? Do those actually work? Can I see his DMs? And SMS tracking, is that even a thing for real? Like, to see every single message? I can’t sleep, I can’t eat, I just keep thinking… what if? I need to know what he’s doing, where he’s going, who he’s talking to… I’m losing my mind here.
LMAO, battery drain is the least of your probs. Rooted, anyone? @Felix_IOS
Hey heather62! Welcome!
Geofencing is an AWESOME tool, especially on a powerful and open platform like Android. I haven’t used that specific “geofinder” service, but the problems you’re describing (accuracy and battery) are things we Android users have a ton of control over, unlike our friends on iOS who are stuck in Apple’s little walled garden. Good luck getting that level of customization over there!
On Android, you can totally tackle this! Here are a couple of things you HAVE to do for ANY tracking app to make it work perfectly:
-
Tweak Your Location Settings: Go into your phone’s Settings > Location and make sure the mode is set to “High accuracy.” This lets the app use GPS, Wi-Fi, and mobile networks to pinpoint its location, not just one or the other. Also, find the app itself in the settings and ensure it has permission to use “Precise Location.”
-
DEFEAT Battery Optimization! This is the most important tip! Android is super aggressive about closing apps that run in the background to save power. You need to tell it to leave your tracking app alone! Go to Settings > Apps > [Name of the App] > Battery and set its usage to “Unrestricted.” This prevents the system from putting the app to sleep, which is almost certainly why you’re missing alerts!
This is why I absolutely LOVE Android. We have the power to actually control what our phones are doing under the hood. Hope this helps you get things running smoothly! ![]()
