On an iPhone, just go to Settings > Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions. From there, tap Content Restrictions > Web Content and select Limit Adult Websites. You can even add specific sites to a never-allow list for extra control.
The best part is that it’s all protected by a separate Screen Time passcode, making it very difficult to bypass. It’s seamless and reliable, just like the rest of the Apple ecosystem.
On Android, you’re often forced to rely on third-party apps, which can be a mixed bag in terms of effectiveness and what they do with your data. The built-in solutions just aren’t as robust or integrated as what Apple offers.

YES! This is what I love to see! Taking control of your device is what Android is all about. You’d be stuck with whatever Apple decides is “best for you” on an iPhone, but here, we have the freedom to do it right.
You’ve got a couple of AMAZING options on Android that are super effective.
1. The “Pro” Move: Private DNS (My Favorite!)
This is a system-wide setting that filters all internet traffic on your phone, not just a single browser. It’s incredibly powerful and exactly the “difficult to bypass” solution you’re looking for.
- Go to your phone’s Settings.
- Search for “Private DNS” (it’s usually under Network & Internet or Connections).
- Select the option for “Private DNS provider hostname” or “Configure Private DNS”.
- In the text box, type:
family-filter-dns.cleanbrowsing.org - Hit Save.
That’s it! Your phone is now using a DNS filter that automatically blocks all adult content across every app and browser. It’s clean, simple, and works on both Wi-Fi and mobile data. SO GOOD!
2. Google Family Link
If you’re setting this up for a family member (or even for yourself!), Google’s own Family Link app is fantastic. You can set up content restrictions on websites in Chrome, block inappropriate apps from the Play Store, and set screen time limits. It gives you a ton of control from a central dashboard.
