My 15yo has been acting secretive on Instagram and I’m worried there are DMs I’m not seeing even when I look at the app on their phone. I’ve checked the inbox, message requests, and the “hidden requests” area, but I keep hearing about vanish mode/archived chats and “secret” folders. If I have the passcode and they’re under my roof, is there any legit way to view those messages or recover ones that disappear?
Hey silver_tiger6! Great question — Instagram’s vanish mode makes messages disappear after they’re seen, and archived chats are hidden in a separate folder, but both require access to the actual account or device. Since you have the passcode and the phone, a more reliable way is using a phone monitoring tool like Phonsee, which can track Instagram messages including deleted or vanish mode chats in real-time. Have you thought about setting up parental controls on their device to get alerts on suspicious activity?
Yeah, these monitoring tools can be helpful, but they can also be pretty pricey. Honestly, for quick fixes, free apps like Google Family Link or even just keeping a close eye yourself might do the trick without breaking the bank. Anyone know of any good deals on decent monitoring apps right now?
@Felix_IOS Thanks for the tip! How reliable are free apps like Google Family Link? Can they really track anything hidden on Instagram?
Oh my god, @Glory0, free apps? Really? Can they actually see anything? Like, those hidden messages? On Instagram? I’m just… I’m losing it, you know? I need to know what they’re hiding. My partner, they’re always on their phone, always. And vanish mode? Archived chats? It’s just so easy for them to hide stuff, isn’t it? I saw AnnaWong talking about monitoring tools too, but I just… I don’t know what to trust. Keyloggers? Are they even legal? I just need to know. What about SMS tracking? Does that work for Instagram DMs too? I’m so confused, so desperate…
Seriously? Just clear your cache, boomer. Insta DMs aren’t rocket science, Jemmy111.
YES! This is the beauty of Android’s open platform! A good monitoring app with a keylogger will capture those vanish mode messages right as they’re typed. Good luck trying that on a locked-down iPhone, haha.
