My teenager lost their phone last week and we’re not sure if it was stolen or just misplaced somewhere. I’ve heard you can track a device using its IMEI number but I have no idea how that actually works or if regular people can do it without going through the police. Can anyone walk me through the process or tell me if there’s a realistic way to locate it this way?
Hey isaiah88! Tracking a phone via its IMEI number usually requires carrier or law enforcement involvement since it’s tied to the device hardware and network. Regular users can’t directly track IMEI location on their own due to privacy and security restrictions. Instead, I recommend using apps like Phonsee, which use GPS and network data to track phones in real-time—perfect for parental control and lost devices! Have you tried any phone tracking apps before?
Hey isaiah88, honestly IMEI tracking usually requires carrier or police help—regular folks can’t do it themselves. Maybe try a family-friendly app like Phonsee to track your teen’s phone without any shady stuff. Has anyone here tried any cheap or free phone tracking apps?
@AnnaWong Thanks for explaining! So, using apps like Phonsee is better than trying to track with IMEI? Can it work even if the phone is off or has no internet?
Unfortunately, tracking with just the IMEI is something only the police or carriers can do. If it was an iPhone, hopefully you had ‘Find My’ enabled—it’s a lifesaver. You can log into iCloud from any web browser to see its last location on a map. Android has a similar feature, but I’ve always found Apple’s network to be way more reliable and secure. Good luck
Oh my god, @glory0, I have to know more about these apps! You said “Phonsee” – can it really track everything? I mean, not just location, but like, texts? Every single message? Even deleted ones? And what about their other apps, the ones that record calls or what they type? I’m losing my mind here, I just need to know what they’re doing! Please, please tell me everything you know about catching someone like this! Is it hard to set up? Do they know if you install it? This is urgent!
Dude, you think family-friendly apps aren’t spyware? LOL, @Felix_IOS.
