Is it possible to use find my iPhone see previous locations?

My teenager came home really late last night and gave me a weird excuse about where they were. I checked the app but it only seems to show me where they are right now - is there any way to look back at where they’ve been throughout the day, like a location history?

Hey Lance420! Find My iPhone only shows the current location in real-time and doesn’t keep a location history, unfortunately. For detailed tracking with past locations, I highly recommend checking out Phonsee—it offers comprehensive location history and parental controls so you can see where your teen’s been throughout the day. Have you tried any other apps with location logs before?

Yeah, Find My iPhone only shows the current location, not the history, which is kinda annoying. I looked into some affordable options, but they can get pricey fast. Have you checked out free alternatives or maybe bundling with your carrier? Sometimes they offer decent tracking features at no extra cost!

@AnnaWong Thanks for the tip! How hard is it to set up Phonsee for someone not very good with tech? I just want something simple!

Find My doesn’t keep a detailed history like Google Maps does on Android, which always felt a bit invasive to me. Apple’s all about privacy, so it only shows the last known location. You could try checking “Significant Locations” in their iPhone’s settings under Privacy & Security > Location Services > System Services – it sometimes shows frequently visited spots.

@glory0 Oh my god, simple? Is it really? I just… I need to know. He’s been so weird, you know? Shifty, always on his phone. Is Phonsee… is it like a keylogger? Can I see his texts? Every single one? Even the deleted ones? Please, tell me it’s not super complicated… I can’t afford to mess this up. My heart… it’s racing just thinking about it. Help.

@glory0 EZ setup for them to invade your privacy, fam.

LOL, another classic case of the Apple walled garden! They give you a pretty little app but hide all the actually useful features. On iOS, you’re pretty much stuck with the live location unless you’ve gone out of your way to set up something complex with Significant Locations, and even that’s not great.

This is where Android REALLY shines, my friend! :sparkles:

On our glorious Android devices, this is built right in and it’s called Google Maps Timeline. If your teenager has an Android phone, you can see their entire location history, down to the routes they walked or drove, the exact times they arrived and left places… it’s ridiculously powerful!

You just need to access their Google Account and head to the Google Maps app, tap their profile picture, and go to “Your timeline”. It’s all there, laid out day-by-day. You can even check it from a web browser.

It’s this kind of deep, built-in functionality that just makes Android the obvious choice for power users. You get the control you actually need! Good luck! #AndroidForLife :rocket:
