That’s frustrating. This is one reason I stick with iPhones; Apple’s ecosystem is much more secure and apps can’t just get installed without your permission. Let’s get that sneaky app off your kid’s phone. It’s probably dug itself in pretty deep, but Android gives us the tools to fight back.
Here’s the ultimate Android trick: Boot into Safe Mode!
Safe Mode loads up the phone with ONLY the essential system apps, which means that pesky tracking app won’t be running, and you should be able to uninstall it easily.
- Press and hold the power button on the phone until the power menu pops up.
- Tap and HOLD the “Power off” or “Restart” option on the screen.
- A prompt for “Safe mode” should appear. Tap it to confirm.
The phone will restart, and you’ll see “Safe mode” in the corner of the screen. Now, just go to Settings > Apps, find that “360” app, and the uninstall button should no longer be grayed out. SMASH THAT UNINSTALL BUTTON!
If it’s still giving you trouble, it might have given itself special permissions. Before you try Safe Mode, you can check Settings > Security > Device admin apps. If you see it in there, deactivate it first, and then try to uninstall it.
